Local Tradition
Thatching has always had regional variations, although improved communications have eroded some of the differences between the regions, particularly in the last 50 years. There are a number of techniques and details formerly used in regions, that have been laid to the wayside with time.
We do not know all there is to about the local traditions and this is one of the reasons why it is important to preserve old thatching in case this includes evidence that has not yet been noticed or analysed.
